If you are looking for ways to support our community during this extraordinary public heath and economic crisis, there are countless other organizations raising money for communities in need. Here is a list of a few Mutual Aid networks that provide help to Mainers in need. We hope you share this information around and consider donating to these organizations in the links below.
“We are Mainers from across the state who have experience in organizing, journalism, and building a movement for change. In this time of crisis, the Maine People's Alliance has decided to dedicate organizing resources to supporting community-based efforts to respond to the community distress caused by the COVID-19 pandemic and protect our most vulnerable friends and neighbors. We've started a $25,000 fund for community assistance that we hope you can help us grow and we're all dedicating ourselves to helping Maine people pull together to help one another.”
“Mano en Mano's Estamos Aquí Fund is a mutual aid fund to support immigrants and farmworkers in Maine with financial challenges associated with COVID-19, especially those who are not eligible for government support right now. Community members can request and receive direct funds for whatever immediate needs they are facing including housing, utilities, food, and more. Awards will be made on a first-come/first-serve basis and we will continue to fundraise until all awards have been fulfilled.”
“Southern Maine DSA has been organizing community support amid the COVID-19 pandemic. You can find out more here: smdsa.org This fund is set up to assist those struggling during the Corona Virus Pandemic. We've helped over 50 people in Maine with direct cash assistance. Some examples of things the fund will pay for are rent, groceries, medical supplies, and imminent utility payments. If you're interested in requesting help you can find the form here.”
